MJR Movie Theaters is once again offering free select movies for children every weekend beginning in February throughout the month of March!  The 2012 Free Children's Spring Film Festival at MJR offers free tickets for children ages 12 and under, and only $1 tickets for parents or caregivers!  The tickets will be available the day of the show only, so make sure to get there early!  Here are the free movie showings:

Friday Night Live! At the DIA


The Tony Scherr Trio 7 & 8:30 PM
The Tony Scherr Trio bring their particular brand of American folk-rock to Detroit from their regular gigs at New York City’s The Living Room and Brooklyn’s Jalopy Theatre. Best known for his bass work with Bill Frisell and Sex Mob, Tony Scherr is also an inspired guitarist and singer. His Trio was formed in 2006 with legendary drummer/producer Anton Fier (Feelies, Golden Palominos) and bassist Rob Jost (Ursa Minor).


Drop-In Workshop: Scrolls 6-9 p.m.
Scrolls used in ancient Eastern Mediterranean and Egyptian civilizations were the first form of record keeping. Use paper, wooden dowels, and markers to create a version of your own.


Drawing in the Galleries for Youth 6–9 p.m.
(Ages 6–14, children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult)
Artist/instructors help participants create pencil drawings to take home. No experience necessary; materials provided.

Come join us in honoring those who served or lost their lives for our country at the Annual Memorial Day Parade on Saturday, May 26th. The Memorial Day Parade begins at 10:00 a.m. at 12 Mile and John R, travels north along John R to 13 Mile, and will conclude in front of City Hall. Look for details on the City cable channels. Prior to the parade, everyone is invited to attend the Community Pancake Breakfast at the Senior Citizen Center (located at 29448 John R) from 8:00 – 10:00 am on Memorial Day. After enjoying a pancake breakfast, head out to the front lawn of the Center and enjoy one of the best locations to see the parade!

Head on over to Wixom's Sibley Square Park for the Wixom Summer Concert Series.  Every Thursday night from mid-June to mid-August there will be a free concert in the park!  In addition to the performance by bands: Novi Concert Band and also Steve King & The Dittilies, there will also be an Independence Day Celebration from 6:00-10:15pm.  The VFW will present the colors and honor our veterans. Kids inflatables will be available (wear socks), farmers market and beer tent featuring craft beers from Short’s Brewing Company .

Best known for his bass work with Bill Frisell and Sex Mob, Tony Scherr is also an inspired guitarist and singer. His Trio was formed in 2006 with legendary drummer/producer Anton Fier (Feelies, Golden Palominos) and bassist Rob Jost (Ursa Minor).


Drop-In Workshop: Scrolls 6-9 p.m.
Scrolls used in ancient Eastern Mediterranean and Egyptian civilizations were the first form of record keeping. Use paper, wooden dowels, and markers to create a version of your own.


Drawing in the Galleries for Youth 6–9 p.m.
(Ages 6–14, children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult)
Artist/instructors help participants create pencil drawings to take home. No experience necessary; materials provided.

Madison Heights Memorial Day Parade


Come join us in honoring those who served or lost their lives for our country at the Annual Memorial Day Parade on Saturday, May 26th. The Memorial Day Parade begins at 10:00 a.m. at 12 Mile and John R, travels north along John R to 13 Mile, and will conclude in front of City Hall. Look for details on the City cable channels. Prior to the parade, everyone is invited to attend the Community Pancake Breakfast at the Senior Citizen Center (located at 29448 John R) from 8:00 – 10:00 am on Memorial Day. After enjoying a pancake breakfast, head out to the front lawn of the Center and enjoy one of the best locations to see the parade!
