Today was my three year old's first day of preschool, so Idecided to take my four year old out for a little peanut and nut free treatsince he wasn't starting school until tomorrow. We headed over to The Bake Station in Southfield, MI, which is about 30minutes from our house.

When we got there, I was happy to see the Nut Free illuminated sign in thewindow.  I want to point out that thisplace is a peanut and nut free bakery, but for some reason a lot of places andmanufactures lump the two together and only label peanut or nut free.  I personally think that they should belabeled separately, because they are totally different allergies.  Some kids are allergic to peanuts and not nutsand vice versa.  It would just makeeveryone’s lives so much easier if all places would do this.  Other than that detail, I was pleased withthe place.  The bakery isn't anythingfancy and it has that old school bakery look to it, but they are with the timesby having a peanut and nut free establishment. There aren't any tables or chairs to enjoy your treat and there are nopublic restrooms.  There was a widevariety of baked goods ranging from breads, cakes, doughnuts, pastries, brownies and cookies.

My four year old was happy to pick out cupcakes for himself andhis little brother.  They had cupcakesfor boys and girls.  My boys are intosuperheroes so of course he picked the one with Spider Man, Super Man, Thor andIncredible Hulk.  His only complaint wasthat they didn't have Batman on the cupcakes. But other than that, I think he was very happy with his selection.

My son wasn't sure about trying a doughnut because the last timehe tried one, it wasn't peanut and nut free. Needless to say, that wasn't a good experience for him.  I assured him that he would like it and thathe should try it.  On the way to our nextstop, I allowed my son to eat a doughnut and he enjoyed it.  Even though the place is a peanut and nutfree bakery, I still found myself looking back at my son making sure anallergic reaction wasn't creeping up.  Iguess this is out of habit and will most likely never change.

We bought 4 cupcakes and 6 doughnuts for $14.00.  The cupcakes are large and $2.00 apiece.  The doughnuts are $1.00 apiece.  They also have great birthdaycakes for $18.95.
