Fall Fun at SpicerOrchards in FentonBy Lauren Weber
Get out your sweaters and scarves for a fun fall adventureat Spicer Orchards, located inFenton, Mich., an hour’s drive from Detroit.
Complete with tons of fun for kiddos, a pumpkin patch, freshcider and donuts and a wine tasting room for mom and dad to enjoy – Spicer’s isthe perfect spot to spend a fall afternoon.
I have been heading toSpicer’s my entire life and it’s definitely one of my favorite traditions nowthat I have a family of my own.
My toddler loves exploringthe grounds, making sure to stop and shovel corn in the corn barn, play in thegiant sandbox and get in the wooden train and pirate ship. We also generallycan’t get away without spending a few quarters to feed the donkeys, goats, horses and chickens.
Other big kid favoritesinclude the giant tube slides, a zip line, several ride-on tricycles andchecking out the cool old John Deere tractors on the property.
Admission to the children’splay area is a $2 donation. Parental tip: Don’t dress the kiddos too fancy –they are sure to get filthy playing…But it’s all in good fun, right?!
Spicer’s also has hayridesand more on the weekends, and for school groups looking to gain knowledge oforchards. Another option for fun at an additional cost is the corn maze.
The Spicer family has beengrowing fruit in southeastern Michigan for five generations. Although theprices inside the farm market seem steep at times, I feel good knowing I’mbuying local and from a family-owned Michigan business.
Making the trek to visitSpicer’s is absolutely worth it. Just don’t forget a camera to capture thebeautiful memories your family is sure to capture.
Happy fall!
